Gout

Gout is a form of arthritis that occurs when there is too much uric acid within the blood known as hyperuricemia. It usually attacks 1 or 2 joints because of the build-up of acids and salts within joints. The joint most frequently affected is the big toe and is more common in men than in women. It is often diet related especially in regards to alcohol, shellfish and red meat. Long term gout causes the formation of gout tophi which are clumps of crystals.

It is diagnosed by: blood tests

Treatment: It is hard to treat and medication to regulate uric acid is generally the best option. This is prescribed through your doctor.
