Gait Analysis

Pain and injury can be caused by the way you walk. Research has also shown a link between walking-related problems and postural complaints, so many of our clients are given a lower limb biomechanical assessment.

We need to look at the interaction between the bones, joints and muscles, particularly those in the lower leg and feet.

We then consider how a possible abnormal function of these structures may relate to any problems or pain that you are experiencing.

The analysis is done initially by watching you walk up and down, to identify unusual patterns that will help us to diagnose the cause of pain or injury.

However, subtle movements occur in each foot that cannot be picked up with the naked eye. So we often use video gait analysis to assist us.

This involves recording the way you walk using a video then slowing the footage down to study your movement more carefully.

There may be a range of factors that contribute to a gait problem, including the shoes you most frequently wear, so it is a good idea to bring these to your appointment.
