General Podiatry Care

People of all ages can suffer from a wide range of problems with their feet and we at Healthy Steps are ready to tackle all of them. Some of the conditions we treat regularly are: ingrown toenails, heel and arch pain, fungal infections, thick toe nails, athlete’s foot, bunions, sweaty feet, chilblains and injured achilles.

Two of the more common problems are calluses and corns.

These occur when too much pressure is put on the skin over a prolonged period, causing the skin to thicken. If the pressure is confined to a small area a corn develops, if it is spread over a larger area we call it a callus.

They are a normal and natural way for the body to protect itself from too much pressure caused by tight shoes, toe deformities and bony prominences. It is important to get them treated as early as possible, because the longer they are left the more difficult they are to cure.

Our podiatrists are trained to remove corns and calluses and can recognise any biomechanical problems that may have played a part in their development.

We advise against our clients using chemical preparations at home to treat their corn or callous because this can lead to an infection and treats the symptoms not the cause.

It is important to try to remove the source of pressure that caused the corn, otherwise it is likely to reappear after treatment. Our podiatrists will advise you about how this can be achieved.
