Lower Limb Injury Assessment and Diagnosis
Niggling and repeated injuries to the lower limb or feet are likely to be caused by a mechanical problem or imbalance in the body. Identification of the injured structure is vital to make a diagnosis. Once this is done we need to assess why the injury occurred. It could be a one-off that was caused by trauma or there may be a biomechanical abnormality. Our podiatrists can carry out specific testing to see whether the way your legs move is normal and stable. We can then provide ways to offload and relieve the injured structure and provide rehabilitation programmes involving strengthening or stretching to help your recovery. Many sports injuries involve the lower limb and can end up affecting other parts of the body, including the lower spine and pelvis. If there are mechanical problems we can tailor a programme to enhance the way the lower limb functions. This, in turn, may lead to a quicker recovery and prevent the same injury in the future. Orthoses, or shoe inserts, may be recommended to help enhance the function of the foot and lower limb to work in a more efficient manner. If you experience any pain or discomfort in the lower limbs it is worth giving us a call; we can make a full assessment and provide therapy to lessen and hopefully resolve the problem.
